Muaychaiya
...The great history of "Muay Chaiya" began in the era of King Rama III. It is the story of grand master "Ma" who traveled from Bangkok to Chaiya and taught the martial art of "Muay" originated in the capital city to the local people (No body knows his full name or military rank. Therefore, the villagers just commonly called him "Tan Ma".)
...As the time passed, "Muay" from the capital city had fused with the habit of the locals in the south of Siam and created the new style of martial art named "Muay Chaiya". "Muay Chaiya" is strong and elegant. It includes various movement techniques (called "Yang" and "Yag-Yueng"), offensive/defensive strategies (called "Kon-Luk-Mai-Muay") and throwing/submission techniques (called "Toom-Tab-Jab-Hak"). These are all uniqueness of "Muay Chaiya"
..."Chaiya" or "Mueng Chaiya" is an important fortress of Siam, thus divisions of "Muay" was establised in order to protect the town. After that,
"Muay Chaiya" became popular in the areas between "Chumphon" to "Chaiya". Many groups of "Muay Chaiya" fighters were founded in every village. Consequently, competitions were regularly organized and that led to prosperity and development of "Muay Chaiya", which is inherited from generation to generation until now. |
